The Bronx, NY — Another long day is upon the Yankees and the Pirates. The two teams will embark on a doubleheader today in the Bronx and possibly dodge some rain.

The Yankees have made some changes to their pitching plans, with Gerrit Cole getting the start in the first game and Max Fried getting the start in the second game, which was a surprise. Today, in fact, will mark the first time Cole and Fried pitched in the same rotation for the Yankees.

For the Yankees’ “27th man,” the team recalled Spencer Jones from AAA Scranton. Jones had been hitting well at AAA as of late and could be a boost to the offense with them seeing two right-handed pitchers.

First pitch of the first game will be at 1:05pm on YES.

Yankees Lineup:

  1. T. Grisham CF
  2. B. Rice 1B
  3. S. Jones DH
  4. C. Bellinger LF
  5. J. Domínguez RF
  6. J. Chisholm Jr. 2B
  7. J. Caballero SS
  8. R. McMahon 3B
  9. A. Wells C

The Yankees are going with Jose Caballero at shortstop once again. Spencer Jones is in the lineup, batting third and slotting in as the DH. Austin Wells seems to be becoming Cole’s personal catcher as of late, with Wells catching another Cole start. Ben Rice will be at first.

Coming off his best outing of the season against the Dodgers, Cole looks to build off that against the Dodgers. Cole was sharp for 102 of the 103 pitches he threw and was given little to no margin for error from his offense. The Yankees are hoping that the stuff he had against the top team in baseball translates today against another good offense, the Pirates.

Pirates Lineup:

  1. J. Mangum CF
  2. B. Lowe 2B
  3. B. Reynolds LF
  4. E. Valdez RF
  5. R. O’Hearn DH
  6. N. Gonzales 3B
  7. J. Gonzalez SS
  8. H. Davis C
  9. T. Callihan 1B

The Pirates will be starting veteran Mitch Keller in the first game of two. Keller has struggled this season, posting a 5.14 ERA in 103.1 innings of work. Keller has also given up 13 home runs this season, which should benefit the Yankees at the Stadium, where they slug much better than on the road. The Yankees’ offense broke out a bit Monday, and that needs to continue today.
