THE BRONX, NY — The Yankees won a game Friday for the first time in over a week, snapping their seven-game skid. It was one of the cleaner games the Yankees have had in some time, with situational hitting and no errors. Fundamental baseball.

With the injury to Carlos Rodon, the Yankees are going to a spot starter, Brandon Beck, with the bullpen expected to be a big factor in the game. The Yankees are looking for some solid innings out of Beck against a powerful Twins lineup. The bullpen is expected to be a big factor in the game today, and they should be set up. The only reliever that should be unavailable is Fernando Cruz after throwing 31 pitches last night.

First pitch today for the Fourth of July will be at 1:35pm on YES and the Gotham Sports App.

Yankees Lineup:

Trent Grisham is getting a DH day after his first game back in center field. Anthony Volpe returns to the lineup at shortstop with Jose Caballero on the bench. Max Schuemann is in center field today and Ali Sanchez is catching day game after night game.

The Yankees are recalling Beck from AAA Scranton to start today’s game. Beck made one appearance this season for the Yankees against the Texas Rangers in May, pitching three innings and giving up two runs. Beck has ok stuff and will look to have a solid second career outing against a Twins lineup that has certainly impressed this season. It’s not going to be an easy task in mid-90’s heat in the Bronx expected today, but Beck will need to prove he’s up to the test.

Twins Lineup:

For the Twins, it will be Zebby Matthews starting the game. Matthews has good stuff and is coming off one of his better outings, going seven innings and allowing just one run against the Astros. The Yankees saw Matthews last season, and he gave up 12 runs over 8.2 innings of work, giving up four home runs.

Other Yankees Pregame Notes:

  • RHP Carlos Lagrange‘s season is pretty much over. He’s been diagnosed with a capsular sprain of the right shoulder and will not throw for approximately six weeks, the Yankees announced last night. All eyes will now be on Brian Cashman in terms of making improvements to the bullpen at the trade deadline.
