New York improves to 6-0 against AL Central teams on the road in 2026.
CLEVELAND — The Yankees completed the sweep of the Guardians Wednesday, winning 8-4 over the Guardians and improving to 41-26 on the season.
Carlos Rodón had arguably the best outing of any Yankee starter this series, going eight innings, giving up three runs. It was a labor, but you look up, and he struck out eight and got deep into the game on a day where the Yankees’ bullpen was short.
Turning Point
After the Guardians rallied for two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game, the Yankees needed to come through, and they did in the sixth inning. Trent Grisham led off the inning with a triple off the left-field wall and came around to score on a Jose Caballero sacrifice fly to left field and a throw up the line. Grisham also had this savvy slide into home plate to score the run and evade the catcher.
This led to the Yankees scoring five runs over the next two innings and putting the Guardians away in the game.
Star Performances
Trent Grisham had two hits in this game and worked great at-bats all day. He scored three of the Yankees’ eight runs and came through with some of the biggest and clutchest hits in the game. Grisham has been heating up for about a month now, which is something the Yankees need with Aaron Judge out of the lineup.
The Yankees also scored eight runs without hitting a home run, which is impressive, given the biggest calling card for the Yankees is their power.
Defense/Little Things
Anthony Volpe is borderline unplayable at shortstop. On this ground ball off the bat of Jose Ramirez, Volpe made the choice to make the throw to first base and threw the ball away, giving up the extra base. It’s not what you want. Luckily for Volpe, Rodon struck the next two batters out and the run did not score.

What’s Next?
The Yankees will have an off day tomorrow before going up to their house of horrors, Rogers Centre, for a three-game series. Ryan Weathers will get the start in the first game of the series against Trey Yesavage. First pitch will be at 7:07 Friday on YES and the Gotham Sports App.
