Yankees Pregame: Cam Schlittler gets the start, looking to split the series against Boston

Austin Wells placed on the 10-day IL, and J.C. Escarra is back with the Yankees as they seek a split with the Red Sox.

NEW YORK—The Yankees continue to make moves at the catchers position. after the team sent down lefty catcher, J.C. Escarra, who has struggled offensively this season, posting a 38 WRC+ and an OPS of .493, he was recalled from AAA and placed the struggling Austin Wells on the 10-day IL with cervical headaches.

Manager Aaron Boone told the media Saturday that Wells first reported the headaches after Friday’s 5-3 loss to the Red Sox that saw another 0-3 from the bat of Wells. The Yankees have instructed rest for Wells, and doctors will run “a battery of tests” on Wells and his neck in the coming days.

The Yankees recalled righty catcher Ali Sanchez from AAA Scranton. Sanchez is not much of an offensive threat, posting a career 24 WRC+ and a career OPS of .454 in parts of four seasons.

The first pitch on Sunday will be at 1:35pm on YES Network and the Gotham Sports App.
